Speaker Spotlight: Meir Elran, Israeli Homeland Security Expert
The International Disaster Conference and Expo (IDCE) is proud to announce that Meir Elran, Director of the Homeland Security Program at the Institute for National Security Studies of the Tel Aviv University, will be a featured speaker. His presentation entitled, "Resistance versus Resilience: How to best balance? The Israeli case," will be held on Tuesday, January 8 at 2 p.m.
Formerly the Deputy Director of the IDF Military Intelligence, Elran has extensive experience in the field of disaster management, as a senior practitioner, as the former chief of staff of the Tel Aviv municipality, as a strategic consultant to the Ministries of Defense, Internal Security and the National Security Council, and as a senior researcher (since 2004).
BG (ret.) Meir Elran is the Director of the Homeland Security Program at the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS) of the Tel Aviv University.
Formerly the Deputy Director of the IDF Military Intelligence, Elran has an extensive long experience in the field of disaster management, as a senior practitioner, as the former chief of staff of the Tel Aviv municipality, as a strategic consultant to the Ministries of Defense, Internal Security and the National Security Council, and as a senior researcher (since 2004).
Elran has edited three books (the last one on the Issues of Societal Resilience was published in 2012 by The Homeland Security Studies and Analysis Institute), and wrote numerous analytical papers on the issues of Homeland Security and resilience. He is a frequent speaker in academic and other professional conferences worldwide. He is the initiator of the Israeli Network of Resilience Researchers and of the International Resilience Researchers Network (IRRN), which held its inaugural conference in December 2010 in Washington DC, under the sponsorship of the US Department of Homeland Security.
Elran has a BA degree from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and MA degree from Indiana University, USA. He is presently working on his PhD at the Haifa University. Elran was an international senior fellow with the US National Defense University in 2009.
