Elina Palm, UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR)
Elina Palm is currently the Liaison Officer of the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR) office in New York. She has 15 years working experience with the United Nations in the areas of disaster risk reduction, climate change and development, and has been based in Geneva (Switzerland), San Jose (Costa Rica) and New York.
In 2005 and 2006, she was assigned as the disaster risk reduction adviser for the Office of the Special Envoy for Tsunami Recovery for the Indian Ocean Tsunami. Prior to her current post in New York, she was the Head of the ISDR Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean, based in San José in Costa Rica, and before that she worked with the IDNDR and ISDR secretariats in Geneva. Ms. Palm holds an MSc in Development Studies and a DEA (Diplome d'Etudes Approfondis) from the University of Geneva.
